After its first ever month-long immersion program in Silicon Valley, PITME hosted its first Catalyst Conference on February 13th in San Francisco. Catalyst brought together thought leaders, global entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists to discuss the startup ecosystems in both Silicon Valley and the Middle East. TechWadi board members Dr. Ossama Hassanein and Deena Shakir took center stage to highlight market opportunities, the growing impact of entrepreneurship in the region, and announce our commitment to working together to accelerate the most promising startups in the Arab world.
The event concluded with pitches from the first squad of the PITME Labs teams. 11 companies from across the MENA region spent the previous month working to accelerate their growth. Ranging from mobile apps to to logistics and advertising platforms to triple bottom line ventures in food and recycling, the companies worked closely with our communities to make the most of their stay. In the end two victors emerged: MENA360, a Dubai-based startup providing solutions for e-commerce companies, and Wally, a personal finance app allowing people to manage their money, won over the panel of investor judges and the audience to take first prize.
