On Thursday, March 23, TechWadi hosted over 60 attendees at the WeWork Valley Tower offices in San Jose. During its monthly mixers, TechWadi aims to deliver a diverse set of perspectives that the community learn from. This month, attendees were excited and delighted by the five panelists who participated in the featured March panel “A Brave New World: Immigrant Success Stories from Silicon Valley.” The panelists included:
Founder of DCHQ (acquired by HyperGrid)
Co-Founder and CTO
Founder and CEO
The panel was moderated by TechWadi’s Senior Program Manager Tasneem Sabri. The conversation was centered around personal journeys of each speaker as well as the successes and challenges they faced while transitioning to the Silicon Valley. Many in the audience were captivated by Hisham Zawil’s efforts to aid refugees through his work at the International Rescue Committee and asked repeatedly about ways the TechWadi community can become more involved in efforts to help resettle refugees. Others were intrigued by Amr Awadallah’s success as an Egyptian immigrant, and followed up with questions about ways he is creating impact not only in Silicon Valley but also in his native country. It was an engaging discussion that could have continued throughout the evening.
The discussion was followed by a delicious dinner catered by Sajj Street Eats, engaging networking and more! If you missed the event, view photos from our Facebook page and catch our next community event on Wednesday, April 12 when we celebrate six startups from RiseUp Explore!
