Arabology is a radio program that is hosted by Dr. Ramzi Salti, Lecturer at Stanford University, showcasing music and other cultural productions from the Arab world. Arabology airs on KZSU 90.1 FM (San Francisco bay area) with over 90 podcasts available at soundcloud.com/arabology. Since its inception in January 2012, the Arabology brand has grown to encompass a blog at www.arabology.org, a Facebook Page at facebook.com/arabology and a YouTube Channel.
The idea for Arabology was born from Dr. Salti’s belief that few radio stations around the world have broached the wealth of indie Arabic music that is being recorded and released throughout the Arab world, particularly in relation to the post-Arab Spring era. Consequently the show has regularly featured a wide array of alternative Arab singers ranging from Mashrou’ Leila, Yasmine Hamdan, Zeid Hamdan and Mike Massy to Hip Hop artists such as Omar Offendum (Syria), Ahmed Rock/Revolution Records (Egypt), El General (Tunisia), DAM (Palestine), El Far3i (Jordan) and many, many more. The show also features regular interviews with people whose work directly engages the Arab world.
Arabology is currently in its tenth season and fifth year of production.
